In Ancient Egypt, When their souls got to the entrance to heaven, the gods asked two questions. Their answer determined whether they were able to enter or not. The questions were; "have you found joy in your life"?, and "Did your life bring joy to others"? I know I've found the joy in my life, I hope in the scheme of things, my life brought joy to them.
Who I Am:
Well, just your average American who got hooked on photography a bunch of years ago and continued with the ever changing elements in it (going from film to digital) and considers it my passion. It has become a tapestry that leads me to express some of my unrevealed thoughts. I use it not just as a medium for art, but also to express emotion, paradox, imagination, and class.
What I Like to Photograph:
While I enjoy photographing a wide range of subjects, (as attested by the categories in my menu), my primary interest lies in landscape photography.
What I Shoot With:
I use a Canon 5D Mark II and also use a Sony A77 w/ a 18-200mm. For my Canon, I have a 17-40 F4, a 100mm F2.8 Macro, a 28-135 F3.5, and for telephoto work, a 100-400 F4.5. And, occasionally, when Jupiter aligns with Mars, I pull out "the beast"-my Pentax 6x7 film camera. This shoots 120 film/transparency (slide) film. i do this mainly to be able to scan the film/transparency and create a file large enough to cover the state of Texas!! The prints i can create from this are as sharp as you'll be able to find anywhere.
I also have several of "point and shooters" that I carry with me at all times, for you never know when a "photo op" is going to occur. But, in the long and short of it, it doesn't matter if you shoot with a $30,000 (that's right, you're reading that correctly $30K) Hasselblad H4D-50 or a Kodak disposable camera, it's all about capturing the moment. If you've rolled yourself out of your sleeping bag in sub zero cold to photograph the morning mist steaming off Snowmass Lake, or watched your child play their first violin solo and it brought tears to your eyes, consider yourself a photographer. For you've created a lasting memory that you will cherish for years to come. Whether it's a "suitable for framing" or you're going to stuff it in your wallet, it's still a precious moment.
Where I Am: Somewhere in the middle.
